With rain returning to the Willamette Valley, it’s time to prep before the first real downpour hits.
1.Visibility is Key
Are your wipers streaking or squeaking?
Don’t wait for the next storm to force a change. Fresh blades are cheap insurance. Replace them now so you aren’t fighting for visibility on I-5 or the Sunset Highway.
Keep in mind: if your view through the windshield is foggy, other motorists are likely experiencing similar obstructions.
2.Beware the “Oil Slick”
Remember, the first rain after a long dry spell lifts months of accumulated oil and grime to the surface, creating a literal hazard.
If your tires are bald, you’re driving on a thin layer of oil and water. Check your tire tread depths today.
3.Watch for Unprepared Drivers
Not everyone in the City of Roses drives defensively. After any rain, keep a wider following distance. Assume the car in front of you might lose traction—especially if the owner neglected vehicle maintenance.
Watch for vehicles with worn tires or failing wipers; a driver who isn’t maintaining their vehicle is more likely to lose control when the road gets slick.
