The Portland Police Bureau’s Youth Services Division invited local kids to bring their bikes and helmets to its second annual Bicycle Safety Fiesta on Saturday, July 19th at the Rosewood Initiative, 16126 SE Stark Street, Portland.

Co-sponsored by Providence Health & Services and Walmart and featuring refreshments, cultural dancers, and chances to win a free bike, the event included a variety of bike safety awareness booths for parents and children. There were several stations offering bike helmet fitting, rules of the road for bikers, bike safety inspection and a bike riding obstacle course. Helmets were also available for youths without a helmet or one that fitted properly.

The Youth Services Division (YSD) is a group of individuals working together as a team to create an environment where children can thrive and feel safe.

YSD consists of the Crisis Response Team (CRT), Runaway Juvenile Unit, G.R.E.A.T. Program (Local and National), School Resource Officer Unit (SRO’S), Portland Police Bureau Cadet and Reserve Program, and an assigned Intervention and Resource Connection Specialist from the Juvenile Services Division’s Department of Community Justice.
